About Hampton Estate
Based in the Surrey Hills National Landscape, a small team of 11 people work together at Hampton Estate to create a dynamic, experienced and fun environment.
With a deep commitment to regenerate and restore their landscape, build community, embrace innovation and challenge – all the while enjoying themselves – Hampton Estate spans 800 hectares, with over 300 hectares open access for people to come and enjoy. Thriving in a community environment, the estate team believes that engaging with local people, and creating jobs, homes and places for everyone to access nature and buy locally produced, good food is at the heart of bringing people together.
With a strong focus on regenerative agriculture, carbon balance and biodiversity, they herd Pasture for Life certified, mob grazed Sussex cows – “ecological engineers” who help restore the heathland, chalk downland and species-rich grasslands. The estate produces locally butchered beef and wild venison, sold directly to customers at their monthly beef parties.
With almost half of the land in forestry and woodlands, the Hampton team also manages these woodlands for timber, biodiversity and public access. Alongside this, they grow, harvest and dry Fuggles hops for breweries across the country – with ambitions to transition to more regenerative hop growing practices across their hop garden in the near future.
Hampton is also working closely with several organisations such as Surrey Wildlife Trust on new nature-based projects that look at opportunities for natural flood management along the river Wey. The estate is home to several buildings that have been converted to office spaces with another set turned into a craft centre housing a tearoom, gym and therapy room. Filming often takes place at Hampton too, with Netflix and other TV productions happening across the estate’s landscapes and buildings.
“For us, it’s all about creating holistic, regenerative and resilient systems that support amazing landscapes and wonderful communities – we think Pitch Up! is the key to helping us do this.”– Bill Biddell
